Issue 21 – Summer 2009
If you consider the size of the world, not many of us really live close to the beach, but ALL of us want to play there. How can you not be motivated when it is dripping with inspiration? Every one of the senses is affected. The SMELL of the sea. The SOUND of the waves and gulls calling. That VIEW of the ocean that never ends and the FEELING of sand on my toes. After a short walk, there is a TASTE of salt on my lips from the moisture in the air. My hair starts to curl, and I can’t count how
many times my lungs fill with the ocean breeze and each exhale carries away another tiny piece of stress. Hands down, one of the top 10 inspirational places to go to this summer is the BEACH. That is what inspired this issue of Bead Unique.
Our cover project, Caribbean Dreams by Nikki Ryan, spearheads our summer issue with a gazillion crystals in mouth-watering colors! Want more? Check out Beki Haley’s encased Rivoli necklace. Kim Ballor’s lampwork cupcake is free of calories, but it’s certainly not lacking in tasty cuteness! Step it up a notch and make Tammy Osczepinski’s lampwork wave bead. Tamara Honaman shows us how to use those funky-shaped stick pearls in a beautiful bracelet. Revamp old flatware with Elena Hallows’ fun project. Dress up a terra cotta pot with beads and chain and create some FISHY beaded wind chimes for your porch. It’s summertime and the feeling is beady!
